Which Vacuum Cleaner Should I Buy?

Choosing the right vacuum cleaner is an important decision. Having the right vacuum and knowing how to use it properly can take much of the work out of cleaning your home. Powerful suction is something everyone wants, but the ease of use is just as important. You can have the most powerful vacuum, but you may find that you cannot do your cleaning correctly if it is too heavy or too noisy. The right vacuum will result in a cleaner home.

Different styles of carpet can require a different type of vacuum. An aggressive vacuum will do an excellent job of cleaning a plush carpet but can cause damage to a Berber carpet. Some types of carpets are very good at hiding dirt. It can be challenging to see if your vacuum removes the sand and grit from deep within your carpet. To select the proper vacuum, you must know about fibers, carpet nap, pile, airflow, suction and many other variables. Did you know that purchasing the right vacuum can double or triple the life of your carpet?

Many people say they use a broom or a dust mop to sweep the floors. Studies have shown that this will only take care of about 45 percent of the dust. The rest of the dust just gets stirred up and settles back on the floor. Look for a vacuum that exhausts air through the top of the machine. Vacuums with the rear or side exhaust will stir up most of the dust before you get a chance to pass over it with the vacuum.

If your home has beautiful hardwood floors, you want to be sure to find a vacuum that won’t scratch or mark your floors. Soft rubber wheels are necessary. Many vacuums have hard plastic wheels that can leave scratches on your floor.

Your vacuum is one of the primary tools for creating a cleaner, healthier environment. First, the vacuum has to pick the dirt up efficiently, but it must retain as much of the dust as possible. Significant improvements have been made in vacuum filtration over the last few years. Many vacuums promote HEPA filtration but be careful. Not all vacuums with HEPA filters remove as much dust as you would expect.
Consideration must also be given to the style of vacuum you’ve been using to this point. Changing from a canister to an upright vacuum or from an upright to a canister vacuum can solve some problems. It can also create some new challenges for the person using the machine. We can help you decide which type of vacuum cleaner would be most suitable. Contact us, and we will be happy to help you make the right decision.

Vacuum Styles

Every type of vacuum has a specific purpose and we will help you find one that suits your needs. Whether you choose a canister, upright, central vac, commercial or specialty vacuum, Guy’s Vac Shop has you covered.

Upright

An upright vacuum cleaner’s primary purpose is to strictly clean carpets. Over the past few years, many changes have been made to make the upright more versatile. On some models of uprights, you now have the option to turn off your brush roll so that you can clean bare floors, such as laminate, tile or hardwood. Most uprights come with a hose and attachments as well. The passions include a dusting brush, upholstery brush and a crevice tool to get into corners.

A significant downside with uprights is that it may be troublesome to vacuum your stairs or get around and under furniture. If your household is mainly carpeted with little to no stairs, an upright vacuum cleaner would be a perfect choice for you.

Cordless

Cordless Vacuums offer easy maneuverability and a great solution for quick pick-ups. Cordless stick vacuums are a type of portable vacuum that’s ideal for daily cleaning tasks. They feature a hose-free vacuum design with a battery in the vacuum body and a long, inflexible tube that stretches from handle to head. (This tube is the “stick” part of a “stick vacuum.”)    Guy’s Vac Shop offers a large variety of different brands and styles to accompany your cleaning needs.

Canister

The canister vacuum is known as the most versatile portable vacuum cleaner. The canister’s ability to do carpets is just as good as the upright, if not better, because it is generally a two-motor system. A feature of a canister vacuum is that it comes with a bare floor brush that has soft bristles on it. It’s better to use on your bare floors because it dusts them and picks the dirt up.

Canister vacuums also come with attachments such as the dusting brush, upholstery tool and crevice tool. Higher-end canisters come equipped with rubber wheels not to scratch your hardwood floors while you vacuum. A canister vacuum makes vacuuming stairs easier because most are designed to sit on your stairs while you vacuum. If your household has a mix of carpets and bare floor or strictly bare floors, a canister vacuum is your best option.

Looking for Central Vacuums

Central vacuums have the same options as the canister vacuum, except you do not have to drag a canister behind you.

Commercial Vacuums and Specialty Vacuums

CleanMax Pro Series Vacuum

At CleanMax, we know vacuums. In fact, it’s all we do. No scrubbers, burnishers or paper towels here, just vacuums. Darn good vacuums. You might think a vacuum is a vacuum. We couldn’t disagree more. We obsess over motor performance, machine durability and how to make vacuums someone actually wants to use. Having the right tool for your vacuuming challenge makes all the difference. And we’ve got it in the CleanMax lineup. From the housekeepers and janitors who use them, to the maintenance crew charged with keeping them running, to the people who pay for them, everyone on your team will be completely satisfied with the decision to clean your facility with CleanMax vacuums.

Simplicity Brio Canister Vacuum

We call Brio the Can of Steel. It strikes an  impressive profile with its gleaming exterior. You will win the war on dirt with this cleaning machine. The Brio has a large 2-gallon bag and dual filters, which work together to trap dust and dirt in the vacuum. Turn on with the tap of your foot on the power switch.

Comes with a multi-floor tool which toggles when you go from bare floor to carpet. You will also get a dusting brush, 2 aluminum 18-inch wands, a crevice tool, and a 7-foot hose. The wands clip on the canister for storing.

This powerful canister is up to the challenge.

Commercial

Commercial vacuums are designed to clean day after day and withstand constant use and abuse. For more than 30 years, we have been selling vacuums to commercial businesses all over Southwestern Ontario. We have a wide selection of commercial vacuums to suit your business’s needs and have cleaners that can pick up water and very fine dust like drywall.

Commercial powerheads and attachments prolong the life of the vacuum and are built especially for heavy-duty jobs. The number one reason to invest in a commercial vacuum is when other people in addition to yourself will use the vacuum: that way, you can ensure that the vacuum will hold up to the not-so-gentle care of employees.

Specialty Vacuums

Specialty vacuums include carpet extractors (also known as shampooers), broom vacs, hand vacs and bare floor cleaners. Carpet extractors are a must if you have pets and can be a great way to clean and preserve high-traffic areas. Pets can leave an odour in your carpet’s fibres that cause allergies and attract dust mites. The only way to get those odours out is to clean with a carpet shampooer. Guy’s Vac Shop also has many stain removers and odour counteractants to suit your home.

A broom vac is suitable for small jobs and comes with or without a brush roll. An electric or rechargeable broom vac is nice to pull out if you have some crumbs or dust but don’t feel the need to vacuum the entire house. A hand vac is perfect for doing your stairs, couches or a vehicle and is also available with or without a brush roll. Bare floor cleaners are made to replace your mop and bucket. Instead of mopping with old muddy water, a bare floor cleaner sprays cleaning solution onto the floor. It picks up the dirty water, allowing you to clean without recycling your dirty water. The cleaning solution will disinfect the floor and dries immediately, leaving you with a shiny floor.
